Agency names such as Operation Self-Help (1988), The Reality Check (1992), and Optimal Services (1994), Collective Momentum Services (1997) preceded Collective Momentum Counseling Services, LLC (12/08). Don is from Jacksonville, NC, having graduated from Jacksonville Senior High School in 1970. He is also proud to have attended Georgetown High School from Elementary through the eighth grade (1966). He is a Vietnam Era Veteran, having served in the Army from June 1972 until July 1975. Don is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer. He believes individuals and families can lead Fuller and More Satisfying Lives. In January 1979, Don completed his undergraduate studies at East Carolina University, where he achieved a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.
In January 1984, he completed his graduate studies at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, where he achieved a Masters degree in Human Learning and Development in Agency Counseling. In 1990, he was certified in the use and application of Reality Therapy and Control Theory as authored by William Glasser, MD. Don received some of his training directly from Dr. Glasser.
He became a North Carolina Board Certified Licensed Professional Counselor in September 1999. Don has over 40 years of clinical experience providing counseling and therapy services resulting from employment with the North Carolina Division of Prisons, Charlotte Mecklenburg County Schools, Mecklenburg County Area Mental Health Services, and Carolinas Behavioral Healthcare Services. He is also a motivational speaker and is available to speak with you, your family, or group. Nekie Boyd, MS,QMHP,CSAC
Executive Director
Nekie has worked with Collective Momentum Counseling Services since 2009; and has worked with the CEO to help build the foundation for CMCS. Nekie is a Charlotte native and has worked in the Human Services and Mental Health field over 8 years. She has a Bachelors degree in Human Development Family Studies with a concentration of childhood through adolescence and a Masters degree in Human Services with a specialization in social work and community service. Nekie is also a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC).
Nekie's passion is to make an effective difference in the lives of the families that she serves. Nekie’s professional background includes working as a Truancy Reduction Coordinator; with the City of Charlotte; a Child and Adult Mental Health Case Coordinator, an AmeriCorps Promise Fellow and a community volunteer. With dedication and ongoing community involvement; Nekie’s ability to continue to make a difference in people's lives remains the focal point of her service commitment.
